CHARACTER DESIGN
BLACK METAL DRACULA
For this HKU assignment by Tim van Gaalen, I reimagined Dracula through the lens of black metal aesthetics — fusing vampiric elegance with the raw, theatrical aggression of the genre. My goal was to capture that sharp contrast between regal gothic horror and chaotic stage presence. I developed a full character turnaround to explore his silhouette, costume layers, and stage persona, supported by a series of anatomy, gesture, and clothing studies. These exercises helped refine both proportion and personality, making him feel like he could step straight onto a grim, frostbitten stage — or into a shadowed castle hall.
YALDI GAMES INTERNSHIP WORK
While working on Yaldi’s market stall game, my focus was on giving everyday NPCs a sense of life and individuality. Even though they’re background characters, I wanted each design to feel like someone you could actually meet at a busy local market — from the way they dress to the subtle personality in their poses. I leaned into diversity in age, body type, and style, making sure the cast felt inclusive and authentic without losing the game’s cozy tone. The result is a set of characters that quietly add depth and warmth to the world, even if they’re never the ones in the spotlight.
